ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE (SAP) (INCI: SODIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE)
A stabilised vitamin C ester that gradually converts into ascorbic acid within the skin. It provides antioxidant protection, inhibits tyrosinase, and refines overall skin tone.
MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE (MAP) (INCI: MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE)
MAP reduces oxidative intermediates in the melanin pathway and directly suppresses tyrosinase activity. In combination with TXA, it enhances tone uniformity through synergistic anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
Evidence: Clinical data on 10% MAP creams show a significant reduction in lentigines and melasma; lower concentrations (1–5%) remain effective when used in combination systems.
α-LINOLENIC ACID–MODIFIED HYALURONIC ACID (INCI: LINOLENIC ACID)
A patented active ingredient composed of ultra–low–molecular-weight hyaluronic acid conjugated with α-linolenic acid. This architecture improves dermal penetration and modulates melanin formation in deeper layers.
Evidence: Manufacturer-sponsored data confirm tyrosinase inhibition and a visible evening of skin tone within four weeks, with excellent tolerance even in sensitive skin.
4-n-BUTYLRESORCINOL (INCI: 4-BUTYLRESORCINOL)
A potent dual inhibitor of tyrosinase and TRP-1, the two central enzymes driving melanin biosynthesis.
Evidence: Randomised split-face studies using 0.1–0.3% formulations demonstrated a marked decrease in melanin index after 4–8 weeks. At 1%, stronger inhibition is expected.
PHYTIC ACID (INCI: PHYTIC ACID)
A natural chelating agent that binds copper and iron ions—both essential cofactors of tyrosinase. By limiting their availability, phytic acid indirectly suppresses melanogenesis while providing antioxidant and skin-smoothing benefits.
Evidence: In vivo studies using 2% phytic acid in AHA formulations demonstrated a measurable decrease in hyperpigmentation after six weeks of treatment.
TRANEXAMIC ACID (INCI: TRANEXAMIC ACID)
Acts as a targeted regulator of pigment overproduction. It inhibits the plasmin-mediated inflammatory cascade that stimulates melanocytes via keratinocyte signaling. B y b locking this pathway, TXA reduces post-inflammatory and UV-induced hyperpigmentation.
Evidence: Multiple randomised clinical studies have shown significant improvement in melasma severity after 8–12 weeks of topical application.
